A Day In The Life Of An Early Childhood Education Student

Updated: Dec 6, 2021

Wonder what is the Early Childhood Education sector like? Hear from your seniors now! Today, we have Shermaine sharing with us on her experiences in the Early Childhood Education sector!

Hello there! 👋🏻 I'm Shermaine, a final-year student pursuing the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education with a Minor in Psychology Studies at the Singapore University of Social Sciences. Being in this precious industry, I am glad to have met passionate and like-minded educators! 👩🏻‍🏫 BUT... It can get draining, be it mentally, physically or emotionally, especially when dealing with the endless essay deadlines, lesson plans and weekly updates for parents.

Want to find out more about what I do as an educator? Apart from the daily routines, we plan our meaningful lessons based on six domains from the Nurturing Early Learners (NEL) framework. It may seem "fun" and "easy" to be playing with the children, but it goes a long way in embedding different learning objectives too.

Some useful tips for juniors would be to pace yourself! It's going to be a long marathon and as they always say, slow & steady wins the race 😚 Yes, it may get overwhelming, but you are in control of your thoughts. Have a planner with you! List down the things that you need to do to keep you on track 📆📝
